HOST WELL / BEFORE, DURING, AFTER

The table is
part of the game.

Use the checklist as a prompt for a conversation. It is deliberately short enough to finish before your guests arrive.

An inviting table with room for every player

Before people arrive

Read the setup instructions and identify which pieces are needed for the chosen player count. If you are teaching, practise one turn aloud rather than memorising the entire rulebook.

Ask whether reading small text, distinguishing colours or reaching the board could be awkward. Offer practical changes without making assumptions about anyone’s needs.

While the game is running

Keep the current objective visible. Give players time to finish their own decisions and ask before suggesting a move. In a co-operative game, inviting a quieter voice can help the group hear another option.

When a rule is uncertain, check the official reference together. If the answer cannot be found quickly, agree a temporary interpretation and mark it for later review.

At the natural stopping point

Check whether people want another round before resetting the board. Explain the time needed for setup and play so the decision is informed.

Pack related components together. A small note about what to change next time can be more useful than a detailed record of every move.
